A little bit about usThe Data, Research, Strategy and Net Zero Division provides products and services to support the organisation to deliver policy, programs, services and regulation for infrastructure, transport, communications, the arts, our regions, our cities and our territories. The Data, Systems and Information Management Branch assists the department with embedding exemplary data and information management practices. This includes data governance and management, implementing projects under the National Freight Data Hub and providing geospatial and information management services. The opportunity we have available The Geospatial Services Section is a dynamic and highly motivated team looking to fill a vacancy for a Senior GIS Data Manager at the APS6 level. The team is crucial for maintaining geospatial data assets, metadata and platforms for business areas in the department to make informed decisions for program funding initiatives and to gain insight into complex issues across Australia. We have a very diverse range of stakeholders providing a variety of complex, diverse work which provides a challenging and rewarding career path. A merit pool may be established to fill vacancies for similar roles in the department over a 18-month period. As a senior GIS data manager, you will lead a small team in the development of foundational datasets including the maintenance and support of the geospatial systems and data that underpin our department’s priorities such as the Australian National Rail Data project, Regional Development Area boundaries and communications data. You will understand advanced data concepts on data quality, data management, data governance and the importance of metadata and its compliance to set standards. You will be proactive in improving business processes and ensuring data assets meet business requirements. The successful candidate will foster a positive hybrid team environment, work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, and develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes and a client-focus. Skills, attributes and experience required for each role include: More than 3 years demonstrated experience working with geospatial data and related software applications, particularly ArcGIS Pro, Portal for ArcGIS and FME. Demonstrated experience and commitment in managing data assets, ensuring quality controls are maintained and metadata is accurately captured and properly curated Experience in managing data flow through pre-production, testing and final product deliverable. Ability to manage team and project tasks and risks to ensure delivery of required outcomes Ability to foster productive and positive hybrid team culture, empower team members, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to effectively communicate with influence insights and issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders Obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance. Preferable software platforms ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop, Enterprise and Cloud (ArcGIS Online) FME Form and Flow Microsoft Office Desirable software platforms SQL Server databases QGIS Power BI ArcGIS Survey123/Connect Coding experience (example Python particularly arcpy) What else can we offer?
