The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Actuarial, this role will be involved in Pacific Life Re's financial reporting in respect of the Australian portion of the Company's in-force business. This includes the reporting of results based on US GAAP, Australian IFRS, LAGIC, Economic Capital and Bermuda Monetary Authority bases.

You will also be involved in a variety of other activities including:

  • Actuarial reporting and capital management
  • Management reporting
  • New treaty implementation
  • Tyche model development and maintenance
  • Actuarial project work

The individual would also work closely with other functions within the business unit including finance, operations, pricing, and research & development areas.

Duties

  • Quarterly valuations for PL Re's Australia business, including analysis and communication of results (and the drivers behind those results) to the Appointed Actuary and senior management. This also includes updates to the valuation basis.
  • Quarterly reporting of VNB and other key management information metrics.
  • Ensure the continual development and improvement of the actuarial reporting processes and documentation.
  • Implementation of new treaties including working with pricing and operations to promptly incorporate new data and information into actuarial valuation and reporting systems.
  • Provide ad hoc support to Tyche model development, maintenance and testing as required.
  • Provide ad hoc actuarial information and contribute to actuarial projects as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Industry Knowledge
  • Good understanding of the life insurance industry, preferably in respect of risk products in Australia
  • Technical Expertise
  • University graduate (Actuarial science degree ideally).
  • Excellent technical actuarial and analytical skills
  • Ability to independently develop and implement new methodologies
  • Experience with software packages, such as Excel and Word
  • Experience with actuarial modelling software, e.g. MoSes or Tyche
  • Personal Skills
  • Needs to be organised, deadline focused and have good analytical skills
  • Skilled at managing stakeholders across teams and geographies
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written at all levels across the business
  • Thinks for themselves, will challenge status quo
  • Capability to manage competing demands and deal with non-standard and unstructured requests, at short notice
