About the role AEMO’s System Planning team is seeking a Senior Market Modelling Analyst to assist in forecasting and planning the transformation of Australia’s electricity networks while maintaining reliable and secure energy supplies. This role will require your critical thinking to Australia’s evolving energy landscape, and you will be rewarded by playing a key role in planning the energy system of the future. As a Senior Market Modelling Analyst, you will lead and support the development, advisement, and communication of medium to long term forecasts of electricity energy resources. This will require a mix of forecast methods, techniques such as market dispatch optimisation, machine learning, statistical, econometric, economic, and technical/engineering approaches. Your leadership and mentoring will support the team on technical modelling matters and will have a specific focus on supporting AEMO’s National Planner function. You will be required to interpret a large amount of information to understand industry sectors in transition, technological and behavioural change, and periods of potentially disruptive transformation of the energy sector. This role is available in all locations What you will be doing Support and lead the development of reports or publications in the analysis of forecasting/market studies and issues impacting the energy industry including interpretation of analysis performed by others Communicate analytical insights to a broad audience, including senior management and other internal and external stakeholders Effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure work activities are addressed across teams, and issues are openly discussed and constructively critiqued Support team members in the performance of their tasks where required Participate in all safety activities, including but not limited to briefings, training, toolbox discussions, or any other activity that promotes health and safety within the workplace What you will bring to the role Relevant tertiary qualification (mathematics, economics, operations research, engineering, physics etc) Proven experience in energy market modelling role in industry or consulting is essential Proven deep knowledge of PLEXOS or other energy market simulation software is essential Experience working with analysis tools such as MS Office suite, SQL, R, VBA, Python, Power BI, and Databricks Strong quantitative analysis capability, utilising databases and spreadsheets to design and run data analysis Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to draw out conclusions from modelling results Sound knowledge of energy market principles, NEM, WEM, or gas markets dispatch process, generator behaviour, network constraints, and power system operation Knowledge of the energy environment and the political, legal and regulatory framework in which AEMO and electricity industry operates, or the ability to acquire such knowledge Effective verbal and written communication skills Able to build and maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders In return some of our benefits to you Flexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave options Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.
