Some of our staff share their experiences in this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=3sRBCQLiUSE What you'll be doing The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will ensure systems, services and processes are established between Mental Health services and non-government, primary care, social support, justice and drug and alcohol services to ensure collaboration, connectivity, reduce service duplication and ensure appropriate support at transitional points in care for Aboriginal people.   The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will co-ordinate a range of preventative, health and social care wrap around responses for Aboriginal consumers and create appropriate referral pathways. The role will work closely with the Aboriginal Mental Health Workforce as well as Mental Health teams and services within WSLHD to ensure to that Aboriginal people accessing mental health services feel culturally safe and empowered in making decisions in regard to their health.   The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will also support clinical teams in the development of culturally informed assessment and treatment approaches, discharging planning and ensure the social, cultural, and historical contexts are at the forefront of services offered through mental health services. The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator ensures services build on the strengths, resources, and knowledge of Aboriginal consumers.   The Aboriginal Mental Health Care Navigator will be responsible for supporting the broader mental health service system (including Community Managed Organisations (CMOs) to increase their capacity to work with Aboriginal people, families and communities in a culturally safe manner.     The position may offer flexible working arrangements and potential overtime to allow for working afterhours shifts on Monday to Friday. Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.   Essential Requirements:   Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree or higher level  Registration: Demonstrated full registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist, Nurse or Psychologist, or eligibility to be a member of the AASW as a Social Worker (CNC requires at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and approved post registration nursing qualifications relevant to the position). Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with experience in mental health and/or social emotional spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal people and their communities and ability to provide high quality, safe and connected care in a person-centred and holistic manner that promotes self-determination and in context of the principles of mental health rehabilitation, recovery framework and a strength based approach. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop, review, implement and evaluate programs for service improvement and skills in providing education and supervision to support the Aboriginal Mental Health workforce Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and implement quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff. Understanding of clinical governance and development of systems to deliver high-quality, person-centred mental health care. Demonstrated high-level negotiation, communication and facilitation skills including delivering education and presentations to staff and managers and commitment service. Current unrestricted NSW drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires.
