About Us

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

The Legal Policy Unit (LPU) forms part of MCV's Strategy and Corporate Services Division. The LPU provides in-house legal services to the corporate and operational business units of the Court and governs the Court's position on legal policy matters. About the Role

The Practice and Legal Support Manager performs a critical role in supporting the Director of Legal Policy and the Principal Lawyers with their coordination of inhouse legal services to the various business units of the Court. Under supervision of a Principal Lawyer, the Practice and Legal Support Manager will also support the LPU's advisory services to the Principal Registrar; the management of reviews and appeals in higher court jurisdictions; and responses to inquiries initiated by statutory authorities. Success in this role requires a high degree of initiative and effective communication skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
