About the Role The Energetics Development Chemist will support the development of test methodologies for an expanding product range, including rockets and large calibre programs in the Defence of our nation.You will be involved in all activities of product development for new and existing energetics products, including research and development of new materials, product formulations and industrial processes for a range of products, including propellants, explosives and pyrotechnic compositions, as well as ordnance product.Duties and ResponsibilitiesResearch new and innovative materials and industrial processes that have the potential to translate into mature, viable and cost-effective solutions for our customersPerform laboratory, small-scale/pilot plant operations and production trials with both energetic and non-energetic materials to support the product development program.Perform research and development on energetic materials to achieve commercially viable, innovative products and processes within time and cost constraints.Developing concepts and solutions, project planning and scheduling, resource management and providing technical inputEnsure compliance to engineering process, governance, quality standards, traceability and all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.From day one, you will need:Professionally recognised qualification in Chemistry or Chemical EngineeringAustralian Citizenship – projects are related to the Australian Defence Force – Thales will sponsor a defence clearance should you be successful and eligible to obtainIdeally, you will haveExperience in a research and development environment, specifically in product development processes, including research techniques, prototyping, standards, quality and safetySound conceptual and analytical skills; root cause analysis and investigation skills.It’s easy to dismiss the perfect opportunity if you don’t see yourself as the perfect fit.
