The Role We are seeking EL1 Technical Assistant Directors to lead technical work and projects within the branch. You will be a hands-on leader that is highly technically skilled, have an aptitude for complex problem solving and be curious to understand the functionality, origin and potential impacts of advanced cyber threats. We want you to drive and innovate our efforts to reverse-engineer, develop analytic automation and tools, and perform behavioural analysis of adversary techniques to defend Australian networks against malicious threats.

You need to be collaborative, mentor more junior staff, exercise high-levels of initiative and judgement, and be knowledgeable in reverse-engineering, data analysis or/and computer network operations. About our Team The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) invites you to take the next step in your career.

We are looking for technical leaders with a passion for discovering and analysing cyber threats impacting Australia and its interests.

The Technical Threats and Visibility Branch in the ACSC detects adversaries targeting or exploiting Australian networks, analysing the technical tradecraft they employ. The ACSC uses this deep understanding to defend and disrupt malicious threats from cyber threat actors.

We are made up of specialist teams who:

  • Reverse engineer malware and develop their own sophisticated tools to do so.
  • Hunt for cyber intrusions on priority Australian networks, using cutting-edge tools and detections.
  • Conduct red team exercises to challenge and test Australian systems by simulating a patient and capable adversary.
  • Support the systems and processes required to collect, transform, enrich and distribute Cyber Threat Intelligence, including with Australian industry.

As an EL1 Technical Assistant Director, you will be expected to:

  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and coaching to develop others (primarily junior staff).
  • Be accountable for managing allocated resources, delivering on outcomes, setting work priorities and contributing to branch outcomes.
  • Demonstrate initiative and judgement, and (for some roles) an ability to lead a team.
