T he Position Engage in delivering, enhancing, and sustaining an efficient and fair clinical service for hospital patients. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of medical education, sharing knowledge with both staff and patients. Actively participate in the Academic Program and strive towards achieving fellowship status from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. Regular assessment by the Supervisor of Training will consider current performance and prior experience in determining the necessary level of supervision, with the expectation of working under remote supervision. The Location The hospital caters to the acute inpatient healthcare needs of the Fraser Coast and surrounding hinterland, serving a population of approximately 120,000. Positioned just over a 3-hour drive north of Brisbane, this area is recognized as one of Australia's top 10 fastest-growing regions, characterized by a vibrant community and scenic tourist attractions that attract a considerable number of seasonal visitors. The Facility A 350-bed General Hospital, featuring a dedicated 44-bed General Surgery Ward equipped with an ICU facility operating at CSCF level 4/5. The tertiary Center is RBWH, this facility primarily functions as a peripheral hospital with CSCF level 4 surgery capabilities. It is complemented by an Emergency Center and an onsite Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit. The General Surgery Department comprises 7 Surgeons specializing in Colorectal, Breast, and Endocrine procedures, along with endoscopies. The staffing includes 2 Training Registrars, 6 PHOs, and 6 Residents.  The Department of Surgery boasts 2 General Surgery Teams, each led by a consultant and supported by a Training Registrar (1) or non-training Registrar (3x PHOs). Fellow positions in General Surgery (including Breast/Colorectal/Endocrine) are available, offering exposure to endoscopies. Each Fellow is expected to remain in the designated position for a duration of 12 months. The Requirements Medical qualification from a registered tertiary institution Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) with a current annual practicing certificate is essential. Licence to Operate Vehicle: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required.
