Your new role    Are you ready to take on a pivotal role that combines health education and Aboriginal community engagement? We're searching for passionate Aboriginal Liaison Advisors to join our team at Curtin’s new Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (GUDRH) located at our Kalgoorlie campus. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!    As an Aboriginal Liaison Advisor, you'll be at the forefront of promoting cultural understanding and empowerment between the GUDRH and Aboriginal people and communities across our region. The role will ensure that health science students have opportunity to develop culturally safe ways of working prior to placement, and support student interactions with Aboriginal communities and organisations during placement.    Key Responsibilities: Cultural Leadership: Design and implement Aboriginal cultural education for students and staff, fostering an environment of cultural safety and respect. Community Collaboration: Strengthen ties with Aboriginal Community Health Organisations and traditional owner groups, integrating their insights into our programs. Network Development: Build a supportive network of healthcare professionals who are either Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or possess a high degree of cultural competence. Mentorship and Advocacy : Support Aboriginal students through mentoring programs and advocate for their success within the health sector. Research and Policy: Contribute to research and policy making processes by ensuring they reflect Aboriginal perspectives and meet community needs. We are looking for Community Experience: Experience working with Aboriginal communities, with a deep understanding of the social issues they face and the ability to effectively advocate for community-specific needs. Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to navigate and advise on sensitive and often complex cultural matters in a respectful manner. Communication Skills: A skilled communicator; with the experience and cultural capacity to inform staff, students, and stakeholders on ways of knowing, being and doing, that will improve their engagement and partnering with Aboriginal people. Equity and Inclusion: Demonstrated understanding of equity and inclusion issues within an Aboriginal health context, committed to promoting an environment of belonging and respect. Relationship Management : Proven track record of building strong relationships and collaborating effectively across different groups to achieve common goals. Education focusing on Aboriginal health and wellbeing, culturally safe ways of working, and the place of traditional medicine, is prioritised to support improved health outcomes for Aboriginal communities.    The GUDRH will be operated by Curtin University in partnership with the Western Australia Country Health Service and Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations).
