The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Prison Supervisor to provide a critical role at Melbourne Assessment. About the Business Unit The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security correctional facility located on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD. The Prison is the State's main reception prison, receiving prisoners directly from the Courts and Police and provides assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system. The MAP also operates the Melbourne County Court, Supreme Court and Supreme Court Appeals custody facilities, located on the corners of William and Lonsdale Streets in the CBD. These facilities manage both male and female prisoners of all security ratings, operating Monday to Friday. The location also manages the St Vincent's Hospital holding cells, providing custodial liaison and coordination of all prisoner escorts attending the hospital for medical outpatient appointments from prison locations across the State. MAP also provide a custodial function at the Adult Parole Board and the Post Sentence Authority located at 50 Franklin Street West Melboune. About the Role The Prison Supervisor manages the day-to-day functional needs of accommodation and/or security areas. They will be responsible for managing a team of custodial and non-custodial officers delivering a range of correctional services for which they will require people management skills. The roles require leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate staff. With highly developed communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills the prison supervisor leads and manages staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment. This multifaceted role encompasses human resource management, including Performance Management, coaching and developing staff, OH&S requirements, staff employment and training requirements and budget monitoring. Some of your duties will include: * Leading and managing staff to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff, and visitors. This includes maintenance of the integrity of both the external and internal security of the facility, appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff for compliance with security and safety procedures. * Train, supervise and support staff in all aspects of prison operations including prisoner assessment, case management, program and service knowledge and involvement, maintenance of professional boundaries and contribution to prison security management and classification procedures. * Deliver performance management, 1:1 catch-ups and professional development guidance to custodial staff, taking responsibility for supervision and development of allocated team staff. Qualifications Applicants must have successfully completed the Corrections Victoria Prison Officer pre-service training course. Cert III & Cert IV desirable.
