Senior Regional Conservation Officer - BCT

About the roleThe Senior Regional Conservation Officer works as part of a friendly and passionate team to provide technical expertise and support to the delivery of BCT’s programs in the Northern Inland region.In this role, you will project manage and lead the development of Conservation Agreements for Conditions of Consent (CA for CC). This involves undertaking site visits and assessments, negotiating monitoring strategies, and developing management plans with landholders for conservation agreements.You will also be the subject matter expert for the region for Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements (BSAs) and the Biodiversity Offset Scheme (BOS). This includes annual inspections of biobanking agreements, Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements (BSA’s) and CA for CC.You will work collaboratively with the Northern Inland Team and other staff across the organisation to ensure best practice methods in the management of protected areas and conservation of biodiversity are upheld. This is a physically active role suited to people who are fit, enjoy working outdoors with landholders and as part of a team, to contribute toward the BCT’s vision of improving and maintaining biodiversity across NSW through private landholders. This role also includes a combination of office-based and field-based work and may on occasion include travelling to and working in remote areas. Knowledge, experience & essential requirements Relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in natural resource management or biodiversity conservationDemonstrated ability to use Geographical Information Systems software to develop, manage, query and display spatial data relevant to property level management plansA current Australian Class C driver’s licence and willingness to travelA broad understanding of the NSW BCT’s legislative, strategic and operational framework, ecological expertise, and experience dealing with landholders will be highly regarded. Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) and the BCT’s private land conservation (PLC) programsAll new employees with an existing defined interest in the BOS will be required to disclose their personal (or a close family member’s) participation to ensure potential conflicts are managed appropriately. In some circumstances this may require divestment of the interest.The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.The Department is committed to protecting the public interest and public trust in the exercise of its functions.
