The CNC Workshop Supervisor oversees leading hands, machinists, operators, trades assistants and apprentices, whilst responsible for coordinating, planning, controlling, and managing schedules. Ensures that work is completed according to expected quality requirements and delivery dates, while also troubleshooting and programming CNC machines, maintaining quality and safety standards and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency. Ensures that team members are meeting the requirements of the Integrated Management System (IMS) and participates in regular audits to verify conformity.

GENERAL

  • Provide leadership and supervision to a team of leading hands, tradespersons, operators, apprentices and trades assistants.
  • Ensures that operational procedures and processes are adhered to and performs checks to confirm adherence.
  • Review work orders and Bills of Materials, plans machining, develops workflow processes and setup sheets, engineers plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory requirements and expedites orders for stock; verifies receipt of stock.
  • Programs CNC machinery by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; sets tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculates requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs (when required)
  • Sets-up CNC machinery by installing and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads (when required)
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position (when required).
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces, adhering to Australian standards.
  • Provides leadership by observing and liaising with team members to enhance production methods that lead to high quality products and time reduction of setup, changeover, and cycle times.
  • Maintains and enhances specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by organizing and completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Continuously monitor opportunities for improvement of processes, equipment, and software.
  • Assist in the induction and training of new staff.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Planning and Scheduling experience in an operational environment.
  • Basic people management skills and experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiently use Pronto, Mastercam, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook.
  • Mechanical trade certificate.
  • Cert IV in CNC Machining.
