About the position

Due to an internal promotion, Altora Ag has created a new position of General Manager Farming East. This role will report to the Chief Executive Officer and leads a team of 2 Regional Operations Managers and 10 Farm managers.

This role will provide you with an exceptional opportunity to drive the performance of farming activities, implementing farm management strategies and embedding regional relationships with service providers.

In this role you play a pivotal leadership role delivering safe and sustainable operations across our East Coast portfolio of farms. Leading our farm teams you will ensure efficient operational logistics, devising and implementing strategic initiatives and budgets, and optimising sustainable solutions to deliver the business unit results.

About Us

Altora Ag is Australia’s leading dryland cropping agribusinesses. Currently the business farms over 177,000 ha across several diversified climatic zones and a range of country types. The Company divides its operations into two regions: East (NSW, Vic and Qld) and West (Western Australia). In addition, the business has a large and diversified post-farm gate business including grain storage and handling, transport and trading.

Key Focus areas for this role

  • You develop relationship and engage with communities where we operate by building partnerships to deliver Altora Ag's plans and strategies through our broad group of service providers, vendors, industry stakeholders, and contracting partners.
  • You implement effective cropping management programs that drive improved production in line with the overall business goals and ensuring cropping activities are well organised, resourced and production budgets are achieved with consideration to seasonal conditions.
  • You are focused on understanding key business metrics by monitoring all facets of the operations, safety and financial performance. This will include the review of individual paddock / block performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives that maximise return.
  • You are future focused identifying potential acquisition opportunities and develop relationships with agents and potential vendors for CEO and Board consideration.

About you

  • Ideally, you hold a degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related discipline. and have a minimum of 10 years' experience in the agri-business sector, will experience in leadership roles.
  • You have a successful track record of managing large-scale dryland cropping farms ideally with experience in similar agricultural settings.
  • You possess strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams to achieve operational excellence.
  • You have a strategic mindset and are adept at developing and implementing plans to optimise operations and drive long-term success.
  • You are a dynamic leader who is both a proactive and commercial thinker, with excellent skills in planning, communication, and execution.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels and build strong relationships within the agricultural community.
