To help us deliver on our mandate and strategic priorities, our Life Insurance team is looking for a highly talented individual with experience in Life Insurance/Insurance industry to join us in supervising a portfolio of life insurers. As a Principal Analyst, you will play a leading role in designing and executing prudential supervision and risk assessment assignments across a defined group of supervised life companies. You will work within a small team and alongside APRA’s risk experts to identify risks and engage with the executive team at the supervised organisation to mitigate and remediate these. As a senior member of the team, you will provide coaching and guidance to other team members and review and sign-off their work. The role will provide you with the opportunity in supervising one of the largest life companies in Australia that provides exciting opportunities for the you to work on interesting and challenging pieces of work that will enable you to have high visibility to senior stakeholders within APRA. This role will also provide a great opportunity to contribute to the key initiatives in support of the life insurance industry strategy and APRA’s broader Corporate Plan. The responsibilities include: Applying financial analysis and other supervisory skills to support high-quality risk assessments of regulated institutions Identifying issues and developments that may lead to issues for regulated institutions and addressing these concerns Assessing the quality of the regulated institutions’ management, strategies, practices and systems and adapting the depth and focus of analysis accordingly Working with other analysts in the team to determine appropriate supervisory strategies for the institutions within your area of responsibility Planning, preparing and leading various engagements with regulated institutions Adapting your supervisory style and demonstrating flexibility of approach depending upon the nature of the institution and any current risks or issues Interacting with the institutions within your area of supervisory responsibility and building working relationships with key stakeholders to allow you to understand and influence the institutions to achieve appropriate prudential outcomes. To be successful you will have life insurance/insurance/superannuation and/or risk management/actuarial background, strong financial analysis (preferably with strong knowledge in asset risk), investigative and research skills, have previously demonstrated a strong ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels of business, and strong business acumen. You will have well-developed business writing skills, a keen eye for detail, and strong organisational and priority management skills. You will have a positive mindset and an energetic approach to problem solving with a willingness to offer new ideas and a fresh perspective. ANZIIF qualifications, or qualifications in finance-related or legal disciplines are highly desirable. Location: Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide/Canberra.
