On behalf of our client, AusAG Rural is now accepting applications for the position of 2IC / Leading Farm Hand – a position that has recently become available on a large-scale, vertically integrated dryland and irrigated cropping operation situated at St George in southwestern Queensland. This diverse agricultural company offers future opportunity for growth with 20,000 hectares of dryland farming, 3,000 hectares of irrigated cropping in addition to an expansive beef operation with two feedlots, sheep and goats. Reporting to the owners and supporting the company’s ongoing interests in growing irrigated cotton and dryland cereal crops, the Leading Farm Hand will take the lead overseeing the entire end-to-end cropping regime associated with all rotational programs. A modern and well-equipped fleet of John Deere machinery and associated implements are utilised in addition to trucks, spray rigs and other light plant and equipment. The successful Leading Hand will enjoy working within a very modernised farming entity who pride themselves on progression, maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders and overall upholding a good work culture within its people. Duties & Expectations: - To be a hands-on leader and enjoy living and working on the land in order to achieve optimal outcomes on behalf of this farming company. - To bring the necessary transferrable skills required to transition into the role including the ability to set up and calibrate machinery for row cropping and broad acre farming. - To have knowledge of water management practices for row crop irrigation. - To work closely with the management team and become part of a team contributing to management decisions. - Demonstrate desirable leadership qualities that enable effective management of the overall crop production process. - Communicate with and relay information from external stakeholders such as agronomists on behalf of the farming company. - Lead a team of staff to work efficiently and carry out their duties as expected. - To ensure record keeping is accurate and maintained to excellent standards at all times. - To maintain the ability to always incorporate best land management practices.
