DevOps Engineer (Rails Application)

  • Brisbane
  • Scout Talent
About the role

At NetEngine, you’ll lead the development of both our flagship products (the Scout Talent suite and Marketplace) and our client projects and products. Your key responsibilities will include:

Understanding the technical needs of each project and assigning resources accordingly.
Setting the technical direction for each project. Breaking down requirements from dev ops and infrastructure to the build itself (including design).
Identifying gaps in our development team and actively upskilling and resourcing as required.
Maintaining high standards of security and mitigating risks.
Being accountable for code quality, deployment, and project delivery.
Acting as a sounding board for the team when development decisions need to be made.

You’ll be a member of NetEngine’s engineering team, reporting to Scout Talent Group's Head of Product & Development. Our team currently includes 11 developers (back end and front end) across Brisbane and Vancouver, and we aim to grow this team in FY25. You’ll play a key role in setting up the optimal team structure given our headcount and goals, which may include training, coaching, and performance reviews.

Your skills and experience

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer with expertise including:

Ruby on Rails (RoR)
AWS architecture/infrastructure
Terraform (or other Infrastructure as Code technologies)
CICD pipeline
Docker (containerization)
New Relic (or other APM platforms)
Experiencing optimising the performance and operational stability of web applications

In addition, you should:

Be solutions-focused, collaborative, and innovative.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work well with a range of internal and external stakeholders, promoting cross-team collaboration to ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with a high level of quality.
Have well-developed organizational skills.

You'll have a great time if you want

Huge influence over the overall technical direction of our products and client projects/products.
The opportunity to improve processes and make them work better.
To lead and influence developers.
High-level goals and a lot of freedom to run.
To get your hands dirty, working directly with our team, products, and various stakeholders.
To learn unfamiliar things quickly to unblock yourself.
To work on the most business-critical projects, whatever they are.

You may not have such a great time if you want

To hand off the things you don't like to someone else
To be fed work
To work on just one project (this role will require the ability to shift focus between, and manage, different sets of requirements)
To work fully remotely (this role follows a hybrid work model; we value in-office collaboration and want our leaders to be accessible and able to lead-by-example)

Please note that 100% in-office attendance may be required in the first few weeks during your training and onboarding.

What’s on offer for you
Remuneration
An attractive remuneration package, based on your skills and experience
Performance-based incentives in addition to your retainer, to further increase your earnings
Our 2-3 year IPO plan means we’ve opened up an Employee Share Option Program which we’ll make available to you as a senior leader
Learning and Development
Lots of learning opportunities, given the range of products/projects/clients
Annual budget for training, coaching or personal/professional support
Regular career growth conversations (we call them 1-to-1s)
Because you’ll be joining STG’s Leadership Team, you’ll be given exposure and opportunities to learn about the commercial side of the business
Celebration and Fun
Quarterly company parties to recognise and celebrate team member success
Quarterly off-site STG Leader conferences
Monthly team retros
Social drinks on Fridays
Health and wellness initiatives such as Step Forward and Tour de Office
Opportunity to attend STG’s annual Global Gathering
