The Grains Research Development Corporation (GRDC) is searching for a Business Partnering Manager to Assist the Head of Strategy, Insights and Planning and broader business and ensure evidence-based prioritisation and critical evaluation of investment opportunities aligned to the GRDC 5-year RD&E Plan and value pools.This rare, significant role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, high-performing team, offer influential solutions supporting one of the largest grain research corporations globally, whilst supporting the R&D team in the critical evaluation of investment opportunities to drive optimal investment outcomes.

Business Partnering

  • Develop strong working relationships with the GRDC R&D team and other important internal and external stakeholders to support development of high-quality business cases for investment and drive optimal investment outcomes through analysis, insights, and advice.
  • Assist investment managers and RD&E partners to develop credible benefit:cost analysis.
  • Assist to articulate the value proposition for investment in different RD&E opportunities clearly and succinctly, including how benefit will be captured, how much, by who, where and when?
  • Assist GRDC investment managers and portfolio teams in making investment trade-offs to ensure a balanced portfolio of investments aligned to strategy and budget to ensure equitable benefit and mitigation of investment risk.

Strategy & Development

  • Supports implementation of GRDC strategy relating to a particular R&D field or portfolio area, considerate of the wide range of grower stakeholders, R&D collaborators, industry and the various pathways to adoption including working with commercial and not for profit entities regionally, nationally and internationally as required.
  • Collaborate with internal managers to analyse existing investments for optimisation, adjustment or abandonment based on the probability of commercial success to ensure active portfolio and pipeline management.

Technical advice, issues and ideas management

  • Provide analytics and insights of financial, scientific, farm based and commercial data to support investments with a high likelihood of grower adoption
  • Leverage off stakeholders to provide expert commercial advice relevant to a particular R&D field to assist in developing the most appropriate technical responses to regional requirements, but also fulfil GRDC corporate objectives.
  • Provide analysis and advice on predicted ROI and paths to market for different technical approaches and assumptions associated with predictions.

Financial management

  • Responsibility for budget, financial performance and reporting of the Business Partnering group and immediate team.

IP Analyses - 'Freedom to Operate' (FTO)

  • Identify appropriate paths to market and IP management plans to optimise contract returns to growers and GRDC.

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with 10+ years' experience in the commercialisation of agricultural research and development required.
  • Degree in business, commerce, marketing or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesise and translate complex analysis into insight and business recommendations using simple language appropriate to the audience.
  • Proven ability to gain influence, motivate and develop others to drive business change persuasively and effectively.
  • Highly developed presentation and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate clearly to a wide range of audiences.
  • Proven ability to adapt in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders with different interests, drivers, capabilities and needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of business cases for investment and implementation of detailed strategic plans to achieve outcomes.
