Barron Valley Hotel is a heritage-listed hotel. It is situated in the heart of Atherton, on the tropical tablelands. The hotel provides a wide variety of facilities and services for visitors including accommodation, restaurant and bar and bottle shops.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Position: Setting up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
Preparing ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
Check quality of ingredients
Seasons food according to recipes or company needs
Prepare, serve and store food items in regards to the requirements of the Kitchen
Prepares food before the arrival of the guests
Preparing food to meet special dietary requirements
Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment
Portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces and garnishes
Assists other cooks during the food assembly process
Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages
Create new recipes
Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
Cleans food preparation areas as determined by law and Hotel policy
Liaise and work with the Head Chef and Sous Chef and assist them to ensure safe and efficient production of food, while maintaining all statutory requirements
Establish and maintain effective employee working relationships
Desirable Qualifications and Skills: Certificate 111 in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) or equivalent is a minimum requirement.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Cook.
Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment
Excellent communication skills
